BRIEF

Design a multi-purpose commercial building on a difficult, oddly shaped plot in one of Munich’s busy shopping streets.

IDEA

It was the client’s wish to realize a building that would stand gracefully in between the visually oversaturated facades of Munich’s famous Sendlingerstrasse. The ground floor as well as first floor are reserved for retail, while the upper floors are to be rented out as office spaces. Simple at first glance, this building reveals its complexity as one looks closer. Due to the odd shape of the plot, the facade was desiged so, in that it twists and weaves from the bottom up. Lines derived from the neighbouring buildings determine the threedimensional effects that make this facade special. Deep research into concrete surface treatments resulted in one material presenting itself in many ways, adding more detail and complimenting the brass window frames perfectly. Further design cues, such as signage or the color-foiled windows, were determined in collaboration with the retail tenants.
